A bright open-plan living room with three different windows, each dressed differently — a roller blind lowered on the left, wooden venetian blinds tilted in the centre, and a roman shade gathered above the right-hand window

Custom means it is measured for this window.

Not the nearest size on a shelf. Every opening in a house gets its own numbers, its own line on the quote, and — if the room wants it — a completely different product from the one next door.

In short

Custom blinds are made to the exact millimetres of your own window rather than chosen from a handful of stock widths — every opening gets its own numbers, and a house is free to mix products room to room rather than fit the same blind throughout. The free in-home visit is where the actual measuring starts.

What "custom" actually buys you

A stock blind comes in a handful of widths, and a real window rarely lands exactly on one of them. The usual fix is rounding — up, and living with a gap of daylight down each side, or down, and covering the difference with a wider headrail than the glass needs. Custom removes the rounding: the blind is built to the number the measure produced, not the nearest one a factory happened to pre-cut.

It is also the only way to cover the openings a stock blind was never sized for at all — a bay window with three panes at three different widths, a skylight set into a sloped ceiling, a patio door that has to keep opening several times a day, a frame a lease or a condo board will not let anyone drill into. Each of those has its own page on this site because each is its own specification problem, not a size issue a bigger stock range would solve.

Does custom cost more than a big-box blind?

Usually, yes — it is made to order rather than mass-produced to a handful of sizes, and that has a real cost. What it is worth comparing against is rarely the sticker price of the stock alternative on its own, though. A blind that is slightly the wrong width, sags within a year, or gets replaced a second time once the gap starts bothering someone is not actually the cheaper option once that second purchase is counted. What your own windows would cost is a real number, given after we have measured them — not a shelf price quoted for somebody else's window.

One product does not have to run through the whole house

Most homes that go through this end up with three or four different products, not one. Blackout where somebody sleeps, a screen fabric where the view matters more than the privacy, cordless wherever a child is in the room, no-drill in a rented unit or a heritage frame nobody wants to touch. The quote is written line by line, one line per opening, so mixing products costs nothing extra in complexity — it is what the quote format is for.

The range

Everything we make, by what it solves

Light and privacy

The biggest-selling group, because most rooms are really asking one question: how dark, and how private.

Wood and venetian

Individual slats, tilted rather than raised — the traditional look, in real timber or a moisture-proof faux.

Wide openings and soft furnishing

For glass too wide for a single blind to span, or a room that wants fabric rather than a hard edge.

Motorised

Any blind in the range can be built motorised — scheduled, grouped by room, or on an app and voice control.

Awkward and special windows

The openings a standard blind was never sized for — a slope, a slide, or a frame you are not allowed to drill.

Installation and commercial

Fitting for a blind you have already bought elsewhere, and full custom runs for offices and storefronts.

Questions

Before you book

What actually makes a blind "custom"?

It is measured to your own opening rather than picked from a handful of stock widths, and built in those exact dimensions rather than trimmed down from a bigger size. Trimming a stock blind narrower does not recentre the mechanism or the pattern — it leaves you with a narrower version of the wrong blind. Custom starts from your numbers, so there is no wrong size to correct for.

Is custom always more expensive than a blind from a hardware store?

Usually, because it is made to your numbers rather than mass-produced to a handful of sizes — but the real comparison people are making is rarely like for like. A stock blind that is slightly too wide or too narrow, sags within a year or gets replaced twice is not actually the cheaper option once you count the second one. What it costs for your own windows is a real number, given at the free visit once we have actually measured — not a shelf price for someone else's window.

I don't know what I want yet — do I need to decide before booking?

No. Seeing fabrics held against your own glass, in your own light, is the point of the visit, not something you are meant to arrive already knowing. Bring the doubt rather than a decision — that is the normal way this starts.

Can different rooms have completely different products?

Yes, and most homes end up that way — blackout in a bedroom, a screen fabric in the living room, something cordless where a child sleeps, no-drill in a rented unit. The quote is written line by line, one line per opening, precisely so a house does not have to commit to one product throughout.

How long does a custom order actually take?

Your installation date is confirmed in writing at the quote. That is the part we control and put in writing rather than a general week-count that depends on the fabric mill, the product and the season — your own date comes from your own quote.

Do you do custom work for businesses, or only homes?

Both. Commercial fit-outs — offices, storefronts, clinics — get the same measured approach as a house, just at the scale and specification an operating business needs.
